Lantern is not a medical device, not a medical alert system, and not an emergency service. There is no monitoring center and no one is watching on your behalf. Lantern sends messages to the family members you invite. It cannot call an ambulance, and it cannot guarantee that any alert will be delivered or seen.

Do not rely on Lantern where a delayed or missed alert could cause harm. If the person you care for is at risk of falls or a medical emergency while alone, use a monitored personal alarm as well.

1. What Lantern does

Lantern lets a person tap a button to tell their family they're alright, record medication doses, and press a help button that notifies family members. Family members see a shared timeline and may receive notifications and emails.

2. No guarantee of delivery or availability

Alerts depend on things outside our control: the device being charged and connected, notification permissions, mobile networks, push services operated by Apple, Google and Mozilla, and our hosting provider. We provide the service "as is" and do not promise any level of uptime, delivery, or response time.

3. Your responsibilities

Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account.
Only add someone to a circle if they know and agree, or you have the legal authority to decide for them.
Only invite people the cared-for person would be happy to share this information with.
Do not use Lantern for covert monitoring of an adult.

4. Plans, payment and cancellation

The free plan is free. Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe. Paid plans start with a free trial; if you cancel before it ends you are not charged. You can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. We do not give partial refunds for unused time, except where the law requires it.

If a payment fails, your circle drops to free limits. Your history is not deleted.

We may change prices. Existing subscribers get at least 30 days' notice by email before a change affects them.

5. Ending your account

You can stop using Lantern at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, is used to harm someone, or is used unlawfully.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for harm arising from an alert that was delayed, not delivered, or not acted upon. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.

7. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll update the date above, and tell you by email about anything significant.
